A group of homosexual teenagers are sent to a “Christian counselor”, who believes that reparative therapy is the cure for their “disease”. When that inevitably fails he turns to the Good Book: “If a man has sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They are to be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads.”

Trailer

Director's Statement (The Cremer Brothers)

“God’s Law” was our first feature. It came from an idea we had for a movie within a movie. The concept we came up

with was more interesting than the script we were working on so we put it on hold and started writing “God’s Law”. The idea of conversion therapy screamed horror to us and we decided to delve deeper into the “therapy”. Unfortunately for us there isn’t much known about the details of conversion therapy and we had to use only a handful of interviews as our sources.

Making this film was definitely a learning experience. It was only our second production and there were more obstacles than we were prepared for. We had a tremendous amount of issues during production that made filming needlessly complicated. We feel we wrote a great script and turned it into a good movie. But we’re happy that we were able to complete our feature which allowed for some great performances by some really talented performers to shine through. This film reinforced what we already knew: pre-production is essential. We will never attempt another feature without being fully prepared.

Facts

God's Law was JoeBert Entertainment's, as well as the Cremer Brothers', first feature.

Production began on July 27, 2017 and wrapped on September 17, 2017.

Although filming took place over the course of seven weeks, there were only thirteen days of shooting (July 27-30; August 26 - September 2; September 16-17).

Another self-funded project by the Cremer Brothers.

The home where the majority of the film took place was also used to house the cast and crew.

Production lost one of its scheduled shoot dates due to Keep It in the Dark screening at The Brightside Tavern Shorts Film Festival (July 31).

Marks the second time the Cremer Brothers have worked with Melissa Malone (Teri) and Grace Soriano (Ronnie/Assistant Director). God's Law was pitched to them on the final day of shooting Keep It in the Dark. They were the first people outside of the Cremer Brothers themselves to read the early draft of the screenplay (even before the premiere of Keep It in the Dark ) and the first ones to audition.

Austin Green was the first audition the Cremer Brothers received for the role of Gerry. The bar was set impossibly high.

The Cremer Brothers recruited Theresa Labreglio to direct the news segment due to her work on Or So the Story Goes and The Jolly Rogers Case Files.

Diann Gogerty was also cast due to her work on Or So the Story Goes and The Jolly Rogers Case Files.

Director Cameos: Herb played the role of Fred Bachmann (only seen in the photograph on Gerry's desk and again in the news segment). Herb also played the police officer and provided the voice for the news caster in the news segment. Joe played the role of Joseph Hill during the news segment and can be heard early in the film as various pastors on the television.

The story came from a fictional movie within a script that the Cremer Brothers were writing. After developing the concept for the film within a film they decided that it was the story that they should be telling.
