story where the survivors of the shorts were all seeing the same therapist to work through their issues. The story eventually evolved into a grief counselor with each story representing a different stage of grief. Keep It in the Dark would represent depression, Play Date would represent denial, and You’re It would represent acceptance. We had the story of Silent Bliss already written from years ago and decided that it was the perfect story for the counselor. We knew we still needed a couple more segments and came up with Detoxification to represent anger. Finally, we decided on a Last Shot at Redemption to represent bargaining, a story we had from several years ago but had not written the script for yet.

Starting in November of 2023, we were in various stages of production with each of the final shorts and the wraparound, finally finishing filming in September 2025. What we were left with was a powerful statement about grief, from multiple perspectives, with multiple conclusions. While each story/returning character represents a different stage of grief, Dr. Ross goes through each stage before reaching her own conclusion. 

We’ve been dealing with the death of our sister since 2017 and this film represents a a lot of the complex emotions that came along with our personal loss. Death Rattles: The Mourning Sessions also represents a hell of a journey for us as filmmakers, combining nearly a decade’s worth of our work into one feature-length anthology.
